Send pages to WordPress as drafts

Video coming soon

Use this when you want the Content Writer to put a finished page on your WordPress site as a draft. It uses the REST API that ships with WordPress and an application password you create. No elev8tor code is installed on your site.

Before you start

You need a WordPress user that can edit pages or posts (Editor or Administrator), the site must use HTTPS, and Application Passwords must be enabled (on by default since WordPress 5.6; some security plugins turn them off).

Step 1: create an application password

On your WordPress site, sign in and open Users, then Profile. Scroll to Application Passwords. Type the name elev8tor and click Add New Application Password. Copy the password shown; WordPress will not show it again. Spaces in it do not matter.

Step 2: connect it in elev8tor

In the app open Settings, then Sites, choose the site and click Connect WordPress. Enter your WordPress username (not your email, unless that is your username) and paste the application password. If your admin lives at a custom path such as /siteadmin, nothing changes; elev8tor only uses the site’s REST API at /wp-json/.

Step 3: read the test result

elev8tor calls your site and shows who it connected as and whether Rank Math or Yoast is installed. Rank Math title, description and focus keyword are set on every draft. Yoast has no outside write route, so those fields are shown for you to paste.

Step 4: pick the publish mode

On the same screen the site has a publish mode. Drafts only is the default and means nothing is ever published by elev8tor. Publish after approval and Autopilot publish through this same connection, after you clear the item in your queue or, on Autopilot, when the draft scores 70 or better and passes the checks.

Step 5: send a page

On a finished page in the Content Writer click Send to WordPress and choose page or post. The draft is created with one H1, the body, the FAQ as an H2 with H3 questions, and the meta. The draft link appears; open it, read it, publish it yourself (or let the publish mode do it).

If it fails

401 or 403: the user cannot edit pages, Application Passwords are off for that user, or a security plugin blocks REST. Allow the elev8tor user agent and REST access for authenticated users. 404 on /wp-json/: permalinks are set to Plain; choose any other setting. Host block page: some hosts return an HTML page to scripts; ask them to allow REST calls with a browser user agent. Send us the exact message from the support form and we will tell you the setting. If the site can never be reached, export the page as HTML, Markdown or Word, or use the API.

Revoking access

Delete the application password in your WordPress profile and elev8tor loses access that second. You can also disconnect from Settings, Sites.
